The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government has overturned the recommendation of the Inspector and refused planning permission for Crest-Nicholson to build a 99 house estate by Manor Road, Saltford, on Green Belt land. Liberal Democrat run B&NES Council OPPOSED this planning application and argued its case against the proposal at the planning inquiry held by the Inspector last year. The overwhelming wish of Saltford residents is for the retention of the Green Belt land around Saltford.
Is this the end of the matter? Crest-Nicholson has a right to challenge the decision to refuse planning permission in the High Court within six weeks from March 4th.
Cllr Paul Crossley, leader of B&NES Council said “We are delighted that the Coalition Government has backed our local community and our plans for a core strategy approach to where new homes and infrastructure are built. This scheme was inappropriate development on many grounds”.
Did you know?
- Liberal Democrat run B&NES has NOT included Saltford AT ALL in the strategic sites proposed for housing development in the Draft Core Strategy now being considered by a different independent Inspector
Local campaigners Duncan Hounsell and Farida Wilson said "Saltford residents value the Green Belt land around our Village. We must remain vigilant."
