Douglas Nicol was elected as a Liberal Democrat coucnillor for Kingsmead in 2011.

km2He loves the City of Bath and as a successful businessman having been in manufacturing as well as an ex-hotelier and restaurateur, gaining 2 AA Rossettes, Douglas understands the need for service and quality. He is competent and efficient and will strive to ensure that the Council provide the service and quality that the people of Kingsmead deserve.

A natural campaigner, Douglas was involved with Green Peace, and worked on the re-fit of the trawler 'Sir William Hardy', re-launched in 1978 as 'Rainbow Warrior', he was involved with the League Against Cruel Sports as well as IFAW campaigning against the culling of the seal pups in Canada.

Douglas' concerns for Kingsmead:

  • Anti social behaviour in Kingsmead Square and other hot spots.
  • Victoria Bridge, why has it been allowed to deteriorate? He will continue to campaign to have it re-opened.
  • Douglas will support residents in their opposition to a new bridge from Norfolk Crescent onto the Western Riverside site, bringing negative impact on the residents quality of life and the green space.
  • Residents of Kingsmead should be kept informed of major projects in the city, and as part of this there'll be a Kingsmead blog.
  • Douglas will continue to support residents opposition to the BRT.
  • Victoria Park and the Botanical Gardens should continue to be nurtured, ensuring enrichment of the people's lives locally.
  • Douglas will continue to support the redevelopment of the garage and improved crossing facilities at the top of Marlborough Lane.

He believes 'cities are for people'.

Douglas is married to Sue, whose great grandfather had a shop on Pulteney Bridge, he has four grandchildren and being very keen on sport it is often said that his religion is RC (Rugby and Chelsea FC)!
