Roger Symonds has represented Combe Down since 1991 and since 2011 has been Cabinet Member for Transport.
Roger Symonds is a former Teacher of Physical Education and Primary School Teacher. He was born in Bath, educated at Beechen Cliff School and elected to Bath City Council in 1991, where he has served as a councillor for Combe Down ward ever since.
Roger was Executive Member for Economic Development and Environment In B&NES in 2002/03. He served as Cabinet member for Transport in the Lib Dem administration and was elected in August 2011 to the role of the lead Liberal Democrat Member on the Local Government Association’s (LGA) Economy and Transport Board.
He is a consultant with the Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA), where he has been a peer member of waste, planning and tourism reviews. Roger was a member of the LGA Environment Board from 2000 until 2007, and from May to August 2011 . Roger was also the Lib Dem representative on the Selector Panel for the Sustainable Communities Act until December 2011. He is also a member of the LGA’s Planning Advisory Service (PAS) Steering Committee.
He worked as Training and Support officer for the Association of Liberal Democrat Councillors (ALDC) from October 2004 until October 2008.
He was a member of the Board of Trustees of ‘envolve’ – Bath’s environment centre until it was wound up in December 2008. Roger was Mayor of Bath in 2004/05, has two grown up children and lives in Combe Down with his partner.
