Widcombe Schools £100,000 Better off this Year
Schools in Widcombe are £91,744 better off this year thanks to the pupil premium. This Lib Dem policy, enacted by the coalition government, allocates money to schools based on where it will help most. Across B&NES the authority received £1.1 million which will make a tangible difference to our children’s education.

Avon & Somerset Police Reassure Residents
Avon and Somerset police wished to reassure residents tonight that despite unrest in other parts of the UK, they do not expect Bath and North East Somerset to be affected.
Helen Coleville from the police said ” Avon and Somerset Police are prepared for the possibility of disorder following events in other parts of the country. Police will respond quickly and robustly to any potential disorder as we have demonstrated during our swift intervention in Bristol overnight.
Residents in Bath and North East Somerset should not be unduly worried about disorder in their community. We know these acts are committed by a small criminal minority intent on causing trouble. The vast majority of the community do not support the action of these individuals and we ask that anyone aware of planned disorder reports it to us. “
Moving Forward in Bath and North East Somerset
This has been a challenging and exciting time for the Liberal Democrats on Bath and North East Somerset Council. Since going into minority control two months ago, the new administration has taken steps to deliver key manifesto policies including saving a local school and revising the Bath transport package.
In doing so, we have shown one of the key differences between us and the unpopular, preceding Conservative administration: we listen to the views of local people while they did not.
We intend to reshape B&NES into a listening Council, which responds to the community. This reflects a successful, local campaigning style which is focused on really listening to local residents, getting involved in community campaigns and emphasising the key differences between the Liberal Democrats and our Conservative opponents.
Starting early has also been a vital part of the campaign with planning and hard work beginning years before election day. “Working all year round – not just at election time” is a reality for us, not just a slogan.
Lib Dems take Charge in B&NES
At the Council AGM on the 19th of May, the Liberal Democrat group took control of the Council after it had been run by the Tories for the last 4 years. The 29 Lib Dems were supported by the 5 Labour Councillors, while the Independents abstained. There were cheers in the public balcony as the new leader of the council, Paul Crossley, announced some of his plans for the coming months.
