David Martin

David Martin was elected to represent Bathwick in May 2011.

David lives with his wife Jan on Claverton Down. He has a PhD in materials physics, and is a member of the Energy Institute and a Chartered Engineer. During his career he has worked extensively in the public and private sectors and has a wide range of experience in energy policy and strategy development.   He currently works as a freelance consultant on sustainable energy research and development, including energy efficiency, renewable energy and sustainable transport.  Recent work includes acting as an independent expert for the European Commission research and development programmes in energy and transport.

David is a Governor at Bathwick St Mary Primary School and a committee member of the Claverton Down Community Association. He is keen on community participation in local activities, and is a World Heritage Site volunteer.

Before becoming a councillor, David petitioned the Council for the 30mph speed limit to be extended along Claverton Down Road, and for a school crossing on Warminster Road.

In his Council work he sits on the Development Control Committee, the Planning, Transport and Environment scrutiny panel and is the council's Energy and Climate Change Champion.  He is also a member of the Environmental Sustainability Partnership Board and the Children's Service Major Projects Board.  David is a volunteer in the Council's Snow Wardens pilot scheme for the Claverton Down area of Bathwick ward.
