Don Foster is Bath's Number 1 Supporter. He stands up for our city and the people in it.
Don Foster MP has today welcomed Coalition Government plans to introduce a network of "family troubleshooters" to help turn the fortunes of some of Britain's most troubled families.
In Bath & North East Somerset, Government figures estimate there are between 210 and 220 families living with complex needs. It is estimated that these families cost B&NES public services between £55 and £72 million per year.
The push to get MPs behind the bar to support the pub trade received a boost this week as Baths local brewery Abbey Ales- backed the campaign.
The initiative, launched by the head of the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group - Burton MP Andrew Griffiths - and backed by the Publican's Morning Advertiser newspaper, urged MPs to support the trade by getting behind the bar.
Don Foster MP has welcomed the news that government funding for the Bath Transport Package has been approved.
Earlier this year, Don brought Liberal Democrat Transport Minister, Norman Baker MP to see Bath and to discuss the package with members of the Liberal Democrat Council Cabinet.
Don also met the Minister a number of times in Westminster to discuss the merits of the Bath Transport Package.
Don Foster, MP for Bath, will be running a special energy surgery for Bath residents on Friday 13 January.
The rescheduled surgery will be held as part of the Warm Homes Campaign, run by the UK's leading fuel poverty charity National Energy Action (NEA), with support from E.ON, and will deliver practical help and support local residents concerned about their energy bills this winter.
Earlier this week I signed EDM 2501 sponsored by Liberal Democrat MP for Bristol West, Stephen Williams, that calls for a general anti avoidance rule for taxation. We have lots of specific anti-avoidance legislation but people still find loopholes. Most countries have a general anti-avoidance rule but the UK has never had one. Accordingly, I want us to support Stephen in pushing for this to be introduced.
