Hospital Park and Ride An Early Success
12th July 2003
The RUH is benefiting from a
new Park & RideIt was good news to see that the RUH Park and Ride
link from Odd Down has finally got off the ground and appears to be already
running quite successfully.
Both the Council and the RUH have been criticised for not doing anything to alleviate the travel problems related to the hospital but things like this take time to get started as they involve applications for government grants.
Last year's Council Lib Dem Executive got this scheme running. The Transport officers and RUH should all be congratulated for their work in introducing this initiative and we hope for more successful initiatives in the future.
This service will not only provide a vital transport link for staff, patients and visitors to the RUH but will also relieve some of the parking problems around the RUH. Local residents have to contend with a parking nightmare every day and it is our hope that this scheme will begin to relieve some of the parking pressure.
More still has to be done to solve the parking problems around the RUH. Cllr Loraine Brinkhurst and Cllr Caroline Roberts will continue to work with local residents and the Council's Executive to identify and enact solutions. This new bus link is a welcomed step to tackling the parking problems at the RUH.
