Recycling Schemes Extended In Bath & North East Somerset

4th August 2003

Royal United HospitalDo your bit for the planet!

The Liberal Democrats have just launched their new initiative to help the planet and increase recycling and move closer to our long-term target of Zero Waste. The Council will now offer to compost all of your garden waste and cardboard.

Cllr Rosemary Todd (Lib Dem; Executive Councillor for Sustainability & The Environment) says: “We all need to do our bit to protect the planet and the Lib Dems are working hard to move towards our Zero Waste long term aim. Home composting is still the best way to get rid of garden waste - only use the bins or bags for garden waste that you cannot compost.”

“Because of Lib Dem initiatives we are already recycling nearly 30% in our area, the highest in the South West. If you want to help recycle more make sure you sign up for this new scheme.”

Collections are every two weeks and are separate to normal waste and dry recycling collections. Householders have to either buy a special green waste wheeled bin at a cost of £36, or use special paper sacks provided via the Council for 35p each. Householders can also put out cardboard either in the bins, bags or tied up with string and left at the kerbside. For more details or to sign up to the service please call Action Line on 01225 394041.
