In Excess of 750 Signed up to Save Lower Weston Post Office5.51.15pm UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 6th Mar 2008 There has been impressive support for the campaign to save Lower Weston Post Office, as over 750 residents have now signed the petition. This number is set to rise as a number of local businesses have now taken copies of the petition for their customers.
"The local community here is making its voice heard loud and clear," commented Newbridge Councillor Caroline Roberts. "Local businesses are outraged that such an important service is being taken away from them. There is even a case of a business which relocated here because there was a local Post Office! Now they will have to drive into town, or up to Weston village, every day, which will significantly eat into their working hours." Older and vulnerable people will also be hard hit, as they will have to walk up hill for almost a mile to Weston village, or head into the city centre. Cllr Loraine Morgan-Brinkhurst said, "This is such a thriving community. It pains me to even think about the number of elderly residents here whose lives are going to be made significantly harder. And if they have to travel to Weston or the city centre then what about the other local shops here? They will surely lose out."
