Over 1,000 Sign Up to Save Bear Flat Post Office3.13.12pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 4th Mar 2008
After just 10 days of campaigning, public opposition to the closure of Bear Flat Post Office is clear to see. Almost 1000 residents have already signed the petition against its closure. Signatures have been collected in the Post Office itself and also at a petition day on Monday 3rd March. Local businesses are also supporting the campaign, with many displaying posters and hosting petition sheets. Councillor David Bellotti (Lib Dem, Lyncombe) said, "The number of people who have signed the petition against this closure in such a short space of time really shows the level of opposition to this closure. Residents, especially young mothers, the elderly and disabled people, rely on their local Post Office and do not want to travel into town." "Local businesses are rallying behind the call to save the Post Office", added Cllr Marian McNeir. "They understand that if people who need to use the Post Office have to go to the city centre then it will result in a significant drop in their trade. The local Post Office is very important to this thriving local community." You can keep up to date on the campaign, and sign the petition, by visiting http://ourcampaign.org.uk/savebathspostoffices
