Bath Liberal Democrats - Working and Winning for Bath with Don Foster all Year Round

Bathwick

Your Liberal Democrat Councillors for Bathwick on Bath and North East Somerset Council are Nicholas Coombes and Armand Edwards.

  • We will work very hard for the residents of Bathwick, as we have done already. We campaigned to improve road safety locally and won an improved pedestrian crossing over the A36 Pulteney Road. We will continue to fight for another crossing on Bathwick Hill. We will always be available to take on any issues that arise for individuals or groups of residents.

  • A very big issue for us is protection of the Environment. This is a global problem that we can no longer afford to ignore. We want to extend the Liberal Democrat recycling scheme to cover more types of refuse and make the collections more convenient. We also strongly support the Lib Dem commitment to make the Council take the lead in its own recycling through the Zero Waste project.

  • Our architectural heritage in Bath is too important to neglect or destroy. We will work to get the highest standard of design for new developments in Bathwick and the wider city.

  • One of our priorities is to improve sustainable transport as an alternative to driving cars. No progress was made in four years to tackle congestion and pollution by the Conservative Transport supremo Sir Elgar Jenkins - we must urgently make up for lost time.

  • We also want a reliable and affordable bus service both for the university and the intermediate Bathwick stops.

Nicholas Coombes

Nicholas is one of the two Liberal Democrat Councillors for Bathwick.

He is training to become an architect. As a result, he recognises the importance of the built heritage of our city. He believes that, like the buildings of John Wood, modern development should be well planned and of the highest quality.

His architectural training has also given Nicholas a detailed understanding of environmental issues. He believes that climate change is the most important threat to our world, but one which we can all tackle in our own lives. He wants the Council to lead by example and encourage businesses and residents to greater sustainability.

For the past five years, Nicholas has been a volunteer steward with the National Trust, specialising in Jacobean history and architecture.

He has also helped as a volunteer mentor at Culverhey School. In his spare time, Nicholas is a classical pianist and has given a recital in the Holburne Museum.
