Southdown celebrates new community safety funding

6.26.19pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 9th Sep 2004

Southdown Liberal Democrat Councillors Dine Romero and Paul Crossley, along with the Southdown Community Safety Action Group, are celebrating following the success of their bid for funding for a new scheme to improve safety and the environment in the Southdown community in Bath.

Cllr Dine Romero, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Southdown says:

"I am delighted that we have secured the funding for one of our projects for our area.

"This proposal maybe small in scale but will make a big difference to the lives of local people who are affected by safety problems.

"Alleygates have proven in the past to be very effective at reducing burglaries and crime.

"As a community we work well together to find real solutions to enhance the safety and environment of Southdown. We will continue to seek funding for further projects for our area."

The Southdown Community Partnership has succeeded in securing funding for an Alleygate scheme for Wedmore Park to gate rear alleys and stop anyone using them to access the rear of properties without permission. They are also co-ordinating a neighbourhood watch at Wedmore Park
