Local Councillors welcome road improvement

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 6th May 2004

Southdown's Liberal Democrat Councillors, Dine Romero and Paul Crossley, welcome a decision to improve roads in their community including resurfacing work at Mount Grove and the Hollow, which local people have been calling for several years.

Cllr Dine Romero, (Southdown; Lib Dem) says:

"For several years we have been asking for these roads to be included in the Council's works schedule and now after hard lobbying we have finally succeeded. The roads' condition has deteriorated badly and this work will certainly make a real difference to the local area. I hope this is just the beginning of far more investment into our roads and footpaths in this authority. We need to tackle the backlog of repairs, and ensure residents have safe routes to travel."

The roads are part of the Liberal Democrat led Executive's plan to invest £7 million into local transport improvements. The Mount Grove resurfacing has been planned for the last few years. This year it has been fully included in the transportation capital improvement plan.
