Lib Dems back call for more RUH Park & Ride stops

5.11.50pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 7th Sep 2004

Liberal Democrat Councillors are to back a call by local residents for more stops of the popular Park and Ride Service from Odd Down to the RUH and have asked officers to find a way forward for tonight's (Tuesday) meeting of the Bath South Area Committee.

Cllr Nigel Roberts (Liberal Democrat; Odd Down) who Chairs the Bath South Area Committee says:

"The introduction of the Odd Down Park and Ride Service to the RUH has been a massive success.

"Lib Dem Councillors would like to expand the service that they secured funding for so that even more people are able to use this as a convenient and reliable way to get to the RUH.

"We are happy to back local residents calls and have asked Council Officers to look at ways in which the amount of stops can be expanded to include Lansdown View and Bellotts Way along the Lower Bristol Road."

The new RUH Park and Ride service, which also collects people along its route through Twerton, was agreed by the previous Lib Dem Executive. The Bath South Area Committee is a pilot committee looking at ways of improving decision making and involving local communities in decisions that affect them. Lib Dem Councillors intend on backing two additional stops for the RUH Park & Ride bus as called for by local residents. 13 of the 14 Councillors on the Area Committee are Liberal Democrat.
