G-Wiz! Green Car In Combe Down

4.45.13pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 20th Jun 2007

Local resident, former GP and Secretary of the Combe Down Heritage Group, Malcolm Aylett has bought what is believed to be the first electric car in Combe Down. Wags Firmin, owner of Combe Down Garage has long been interested in Electric Vehicles and would like to be able to sell and service them in Combe Down.

Malcolm said:

"I am very pleased with the new car and its performance. I have had to wait for months for delivery, but I feel that in a small way I can do my bit for the environment and hopefully others will follow".

Wags Firmin said:

"Electric vehicle technology has made great strides in recent years. There is still some way to go before buying an electric car is an option for most people, but I believe they will become commonplace before long.

Cllr Roger Symonds (Combe Down, Liberal Democrat) said:

Cllr Cherry Beath and I will do all we can to help Wags to realise his ambitions to deal in electric cars. We also plan to ask the Council to look into providing at least one electricity outlet in one of its car parks to enable commuters who wish to drive electric vehicles into Bath to be able to charge the batteries during the day. This already happens in London, why not here in Bath?"

Cllr Cherry Beath (Combe Down, Liberal Democrat) said:

It is fantastic that Malcolm is blazing a trail and showing us all how to 'walk the talk'. This is a small first step towards reducing pollution in our city and others will no doubt wish to follow. The Council could demonstrate a commitment towards addressing Climate Change and encourage the use of electric vehicles by providing charging facilities for commuters and allowing electric vehicles to park free as in London."

End.
