New Licensing Laws Must be Properly Enforced - Foster

4.17.40pm UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 24th Nov 2006

Commenting on the first anniversary of the implementation of the Licensing Act, Liberal Democrat Shadow Culture Secretary and City MP, Don Foster said:

"The Government must ensure that licensing authorities enforce the current law, and that there are penalties for those who break the rules.

"Public confidence will only be restored by carrying out comprehensive research into the effect of these changes on our country's drinking culture.

"Before these new rules were bought in the Government was challenged to provide baseline statistics against which changes could be judged - they have still failed to do so."

Don recently helped to launch Bath Liberal Democrats 'Healthier Drinking Campaign' and has been urging the Government to tackle the problem of alcohol abuse.
