Happy hour ban only goes half way - Foster

2.55.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 23rd May 2005

Bath's MP, Don Foster has welcomed the announcement that members of the British Beer and Pub Association (BPPA) are to end Happy Hour promotions, but feels more needs to be done to tackle irresponsible drink promotions.

Commenting, Don said,

"This move to curb binge drinking is welcome, but with the Beer and Pub Association accounting for only 50% of the pub industry, the rest of the sector will have to follow suit if we are to properly tackle irresponsible drinks promotions.

"Happy Hours are only part of the problem. Before Labour brings in longer licensing hours, we need to see far more action on their Alcohol Disorder Zone proposals, more alcohol awareness education, and better alcohol unit labelling."
