August 4th 2014 sees the Centenary of the commencement of hostilities in the First World War. This centenary has a huge local and national significance. The Saltford War Memorial, erected 1920, with seventeen local names engraved, reminds us of the scale of the loss of life in WW1 that affected every community.
LED lighting comes to Saltford

The Saltford Parish Plan 2010 highlighted concerns of residents over energy consumption and global warming. LibDem run B&NES Council policy is not to turn off lights or to alter hours but to convert to LED lighting throughout the area. B&NES Liberal Democrat Cabinet has approved expenditure of £124,000 in this financial year at its April Cabinet meeting as B&NES contribution to the development of Phase 1 of the Metro West project, formerly called the Greater Bristol Metro, which will include half-hourly rail services for Keynsham, Oldfield Park and Bath Spa across the Bristol-Bath sub-region and which may be a precursor for these same services for Saltford. Duncan Hounsell, spokesperson for the Keynsham and Saltford LibDems, said “Metro West, which will include Keynsham and may include Saltford, is the most exciting public transport project for decades. The objectives are to produce a modal shift from car to rail, to support economic growth, and to provide sustainable transport.
Air Quality improving on A4 in Saltford?

An Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) on a section of the A4 Bath Road in Saltford was declared in December 2012 by B&NES Council. This was triggered by one measure of one pollutant, namely Nitrogen Dioxide, being above the European target level in 2010 at monitoring points by the Crown pub, by Saltford Library, and by the Glen. The target is an annual mean concentration of Nitrogen Dioxide in the air of 40 micrograms per cubic metre.
"5000 houses for Saltford? - Shock option REJECTED

Most Saltford residents were unaware that the start of 2013 saw one of the most dramatic periods in Saltford’s history. A set of options for future house-building in B&NES prepared by B&NES officers included the option of a by-pass skirting Saltford tightly to the south PLUS FIVE THOUSAND HOUSES!!! This option was put forward for consideration as part of a package that might satisfy the independent inspector examining the Draft Core Strategy that B&NES was planning for sufficient new housing in the period 2014-2029. An additional 5000 houses on the south side of Saltford would increase its size by almost four-fold.
