Dear Resident
You are receiving this because of past contact with the Widcombe or Bath Lib Dems. We think it will contain news and information of interest to you. If you don't want to receive it please let us know. And do feel free to forward it to any of your friends or neighbours for whom it might also be relevant.
Thank you,
Ian and Ben
Rossiter Rd
After a regrettable delay we are pleased to say that the design work on the new road scheme will hopefully soon be restarting. This will inevitably mean a later than expected completion date, so are now looking to 2014-15. We have no reason at this stage to believe it will take any longer.
Halfpenny Bridge
After several years of pressing for a restoration of Halfpenny Bridge we have finally got the council to start work, which is now underway. This has of necessity led to the closure of the bridge which we know causes inconvenience to many. However, we have managed to get the period of closure down from three months to 9 weeks, and are optimistic that it might be even shorter than this - possibly reopening in early June. We have also been working with the Widcombe Association to get some further enhancements incorporated at the same time.
20mph in Widcombe
Following the successful consultation on the introduction 20mph limits in the roads west of Wells Rd, we hope shortly to hear of the results of the consultation for Dolemeads, Then the consultation on other parts of Widcombe should start. Residents on upper Widcombe Hill recently brought a petition to be included in this. We are interested too to promote the concept of 20mph on the main through roads (such as Wells Rd), and questions on this will be included in a survey we will soon be bringing out.
Beechen Cliff woods
Some remedial work to stabilise the woods on Beechen Cliff in the area of Calton Gardens has already taken place. This is intended to be just the start of £0.5m programme of works to bring some vigour back to this iconic part of Bath's world heritage site. The intention is to work on this with the National Trust over the long-term to produce a real difference in the area, which will also benefit the city as a whole.
And in the same area, the Calton Rd playground is scheduled soon to be receiving some TLC. We hope to be able to arrange for the council to work with members of the local ARCH residents association to get the best outcomes for everyone.
Ward Councillor Initiative fund
This refers to the small sum of money that councillors receive each year to spend on projects in their wards. It is currently about £6000 for Widcombe. Last year's has been spent on a 'speed flasher' for Prior Park Rd, which should be in place soon. We are still optimistic of being able to make improvements to the crossing on Pulteney Rd at Widcombe Junior School, but it is taking longer than expected. With this year's money we have already committed £1000 to help with the improvements to Halfpenny Bridge, but are now actively seeking further ideas. Please contact us with your suggestions.
Next PaCT (Partners and Communities Together) meeting
The next Pact meeting is on Tuesday June 18, at 7.00pm at Widcoimbe Junior School. All are welcome to come and air any matters of local concern.
LibDems in Widcombe
Ian and Ben welcome any offers of support from readers of this email who have an interest in our activities. We would be interested to meet any people who want to join the Lib Dems, or deliver leaflets. We are specially interested too to talk to any individuals who would consider standing in the Council elections in May 2015.
