Councillors celebrate 10 years of advice surgery

July 22, 2009 11:02 AM

Odd Down Councillors Steve Hedges and Nigel Roberts are celebrating the tenth anniversary of their weekly advice surgery for residents this month.

Councillor Nigel Roberts said, "When we started the advice surgery in July 1999, with the aim of giving help and advice to Odd Down residents, who could have guessed we would still be doing it every week after ten years and still in the same building!

"Over the years we have met hundreds of residents needing help with problems and questions. We've worked with Somer Housing and the police, St Phillip's church, youth groups and many others. Steve and I feel we have been very lucky to meet people from all walks of life."

Councillor Steve Hedges said, "The last ten years have seen a lot of changes in Odd Down. Sulis Meadows has been built and is soon to be adopted by the Council, Clark's factory is sadly gone but the new housing estate in its place is also soon to be adopted by the Council.

"Like most communities we have our problems but on the whole the community pulls together, working with the Council, the police, the housing associations to improve Odd Down's lot."

City MP Don Foster will join Steve and Nigel on 25th July to celebrate the anniversary. Don said, "I was with Steve and Nigel for their first advice surgery ten years ago and I'm looking forward to helping them celebrate this marathon achievement."

If you are a resident of the Bath constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
