Bathwick residents turned out to clean up their local environment on Sunday morning (29th March), joining forces with British Waterways and Bathwick Councillor Nicholas Coombes to help clear up the Kennet & Avon Canal in Bathwick.

The volunteers picked up 20 sacks of rubbish from the towpath and verges between the Bath Locks and Bathampton. Finds included a trolley and a TV aerial both secreted in the vegetation below Sham Castle Lane. Marker posts and information boards were re-painted at the stretch opposite Sydney Buildings.
"Volunteering projects like this are really good," said Cllr Coombes (Liberal Democrat, Bathwick).
"A few hours work by fifteen people has made a real difference to our area and the benefits will be felt by the community as a whole.
"I'm very grateful to those residents who turned out to help and to British Waterways for their support and advice. It was warm and sunny which helped make for a fun, sociable morning - I hope we will be able to organise further community events to help improve the local environment."
