Liberal Democrat members of a Council watchdog panel have expressed concerns that adequate information is not being released about the Council's home care services.
Cllr Cherry Beath has raised concerns over changes to the home care system
Members sitting on the Healthier Communities and Older People O&S panel meeting met yesterday to examine an update report on the new providers of home care services in Bath and North East Somerset, most of which have been in place since April last year (2008), but Lib Dem panel members criticised the Cabinet member for the lack of information in the report.
Councillor Cherry Beath said, "In recent months the Liberal Democrat members of the panel have asked for detailed information about the new home care service providers, and we were expecting at this meeting to receive a detailed report on how the service plan is being delivered and the response from service users as to the changeover during this past year.
"However, when we came to examine the report, I was dismayed that there was no feedback from service users on how the changeover in service providers has affected vulnerable client groups - in fact the report was only two pages long!
"We have also raised our concerns about staffing movements and training. Several members of staff appear to have transferred out of the employment of the new providers and back into the Council services within 2 to 4 weeks of the changeover. However no explanation has been given for these issues.
"The duty of the scrutiny panel is to act as a safeguard for the protection of our residents and staff. However without full information, we are unable to fulfil this responsibility."
Following a recommendation by the Liberal Democrat members, it has been agreed that a full report will come back to the next panel meeting in July.
