Liberal Democrat Councillor for Odd Down, Steve Hedges, has criticised the energy company EDF for badly letting down a local family, leaving them with no heating since Saturday February 7th.
Cllr Steve Hedges is concerned with the actions of EDF energy
Councillor Hedges said, "This situation was first brought to my attention on Monday (February 9th) when one of my residents, Ms X, who is a single mother to four children, knocked on my door. Ms X told me that, due to a broken card meter for her house, her gas supply had been cut off leaving her without heating despite her having sufficient funds on her card. With a sick child at home and no heating for three days, Ms X was getting desperate.
"We have made a number of calls to EDF and they have variously denied responsibility for the repair of the meter, promised to send an engineer, who then failed to turn up, and refused to help with any kind of temporary heating measures.
"I find it shocking that EDF are so cavalier about this essential service to a family with young children. The family are not behind with payments in any way yet when it comes to the crunch, EDF have failed to help them.
"As of 11.30 a.m. on Tuesday I have tried one last time to get some one out to fix the problem. We have been told it will be sometime today and we are still waiting."
