Sixty-five local residents took part in an interactive meeting at Combe Down School Hall on Monday, organised by Liberal Democrat Councillors Roger Symonds and Cherry Beath. A number of interesting issues were raised from 20 mph speed limits to more allotments. Residents also supported the view, expressed by a number of people that Combe Down is a village and not just part of suburban Bath and should be treated as such.
Cllr Cherry Beath said, "When we were campaigning before the last election residents told us that there were six issues that they wanted us to address; two of these were about traffic and safety on North Road and about traffic flows in Combe Down village. This meeting is a part of our continuing efforts to deal with these problems and to look closer at the village environment. We were very pleased with the turnout and the positive attitude of local people towards addressing these problems."
Cllr Roger Symonds said, "There were some very useful issues raised, some of which we passed straight to officers to get on with, but requests for a one way system, mandatory 20 mph speed limits or more allotments and many others will be subject to much more discussion, debate and consultation."
Small groups of residents were asked to put forward their 3 main priorities for Combe Down and they were, in no particular order as follows:
Drainage improvements, mandatory 20 mph speed limit in the village, parking enforcement, more allotments, one way system, more litter bins, zebra crossing at Rainbow Wood, pedestrian refuge/mini roundabout at top of Ralph Allen Drive, level pavements, school 'walking bus' to reduce school traffic, reduce speed of traffic and dangerous crossings in North Road
There were many other suggestions made that will be followed up and full details of what was raised at the meeting will be in the Stone Mines Information Centre by next week.
