Since the successful ice rink in Queen's Square several years ago the residents of Bath have been eagerly awaiting another opportunity to skate. This year we again lost the chance because of mistakes in the consultation process.
At the B&NES Cabinet meeting this week, Councillor Paul Crossley (Lib Dem, Southdown) said:
"An ice rink for the city is not something that you can leave till the last minute: it needs to be planned well ahead. Now that we have an operator that wants to bring an ice rink to the city, we need to work in partnership to achieve this - starting now.
"I consider the ideal solution to be in Parade Gardens but, as with any site in Bath, there are a range of issues and concerns to be addressed. I was delighted that the new Cabinet member, Councillor Gazzard, has agreed to listen to suggestions and work with interested groups to look at all possible sites, including Parade Gardens, to ensure an ice rink comes to Bath for the festive season 2009."
