Davis Langdon, Project and cost managers for the Combe Down Stone Mines project have sponsored one of Bladud's Pigs. The pig, aptly named 'Dig my Pig', has a Stone Mines theme and is standing outside the Co-Op in The Avenue.

The installation of the Pig has marked a couple of significant milestones on the project too. In the last week all the underground roadways and shuttering in the Firs and Byfield Mine Complex have now been completed and the landmark pouring of 400,000m3 of concrete has been passed. The project is on time for nearing the final completion, including the dismantling of the worksite and restoration of Firs Field, for early 2010.
Hydrock, the company that actually does the concrete pouring and builds the roadways has also sponsored a Pig. This one, 'Rocky', on top of one of the concrete silos in the worksite must be the highest Pig in Bath!
Alan Francis (Davis Langdon Managing Partner) said, "My company has been pleased to support the Bladud's Pigs project and If the pig is not sold at auction we would be happy for it to sited somewhere in Combe Down on a permanent basis, perhaps in Firs Field. Hydrock have also said that their pig, if not sold could remain in Combe Down."
Cllr Roger Symonds said, "Ten years ago there was little prospect of any stabilisation of the mines, yet here we are nearing the end of the project. I take my hat off to all those who have got us to this stage. There has been nothing but praise from local residents for all those involved in the project team.
"They have treated local people with sensitivity and respect and have always been willing to get involved in the life of the village. Sponsoring the Pigs is just the latest example of this involvement."
Cllr Cherry Beath said:, "Even if the Pigs are sold at auction Davis Langdon and Hydrock will have the satisfaction of knowing that they have also contributed to another underground project, this time more than 70 metres under Combe Down - the restoration of the Combe Down Tunnel on the old Somerset and Dorset Railway for the Two Tunnels project."
