Save Bath's Post Offices

Don and local Campaiangers launch the campaign to prevent further Post Office closures in Bath

Don at Weston Post Office launching the campaign

Don Foster has launched a campaign to prevent the closure of any further Post Offices in Bath, with the government consultation set to begin in our area in February 2008. The government plans to close 2,500 Post Offices nationwide, which is nearly 20% of the current network. This could mean 2 or 3 Post Offices close in Bath, with just 10 Post Offices serving 100,000 residents.

Commenting, Don said, "In the last round of cuts, Bath lost a third of it's Post Offices; down from 19 to just 13. Last time around I was concerned that seemingly no notice was taken of the views of local people, who campaigned hard to save their Post Offices. By launching this campaign well in advance of the consultation in February, we aim to demonstrate the public feeling against any further closures."

Petitions will be being distributed to Post Offices across the city, but you can also sign on-line at http://ourcampaign.org.uk/savebathspostoffices

Labour have already closed 4,000 Post Offices since they came to power in 1997, and previous to that the Conservatives closed 3,500 across the country. Those numbers closed are equivalent to half the current Post Office network.

Don has also written to David Mills, the Chief Executive of Post Office Ltd, to voice his concerns and to ask him to listen to the views of local people campaigning against further cuts in Bath.

If you are a resident of the Bath constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
