One of the jobs to be tackled in the Deep Clean Keep Clean initiative is replacing the pane of glass in this bus shelter

The big multi-agency clean up over 8th, 9th, and 10th August in Combe Down, concentrating mainly on Foxhill got off to a good start this morning, with a thorough cleaning of Queens Drive in the centre of the Foxhill Estate. A gang of Council cleaners sprang into action cleaning pavements, gutters and the road. Somer Housing's contractor JV Strong was also in evidence pruning trees, shrubs and hedges. The Council's graffiti team was also hard at work clearing moss from pathways in Drake Avenue. New bins will be installed and the Council's highways department will carry out road and pavement patching in the area.

The Fire service 'pod' is at Bradford Road shops giving advice on fire prevention, with the Council's Energy Officer on hand to give energy conservation advice and the Local Beat Manager giving crime prevention tips.

On Saturday morning there will be a number of skips in Foxhill, provided by Somer Housing to get rid of bulky rubbish.

Lib Dem councillor, Roger Symonds (Combe Down) said:

"This is a very exciting initiative and fits well with our 'Six to Fix' pledge to the electorate in Combe Down, in May, for better cleaning in Foxhill. This is the first time in this authority area that we have had this sort of multi agency co-operation to focus on a small. The initiative comes from a meeting that I had with Council officers 2 years ago after I complained that this area needed better cleaning and I had seen a multi skilled task force in action in another Council."

Councillor Symonds continued, "Some councils organise their workforce into area multi-skilled teams and I believe that this exercise will demonstrate how effective this type of organisation could be in Bath."

Lib Dem councillor, Cherry Beath (also Combe Down) added:

"We have added a lot of things that local people have told us need to be done. Some will be completed during this period and we should be able to see a distinct ongoing improvement."

If you are a resident of the Bath constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
