Lottery grant is great news for Bath museum - Foster

September 1, 2006 4:54 PM

Bath's MP, Don Foster, has sent his congratulations to the Bath Industrial Heritage Trust which has been awarded a £25,400 grant by the Heritage Lottery Fund to install new gallery space in the Museum of Bath at Work.

The displays in the permanent exhibition will be created through inviting submissions from local residents of those aspects of the locality which they think are important, and will give them a chance to access heritage from a local perspective.

The second area to be created will be space for temporary exhibitions on local subjects, developed with or by local people. Easily moved furniture will be installed so that the area can be converted into an educational or activity space.

Stuart Burroughs, Director of the Museum, hopes that the exhibitions will be open to the public in April 2007, and has praised the Heritage Lottery Fund as being a great help to small local organisations. He also looks forward to developing closer links with the local historical groups who assisted with the ideas for the permanent exhibition.

Commenting, Don said:

"This grant is great news for the Museum of Bath at Work and I would encourage Bath residents to get involved in whatever way they can.

"One aspect of the permanent exhibition is that it will display self-guided walks around Bath, which will enable visitors to see more of our beautiful city.

"This project is something which the whole community can be really proud of and I'm looking forward to seeing the finished result next year."

If you are a resident of the Bath constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
