Bitter Blow for Bath's Communities

November 11, 2004 12:00 AM

Don has slammed Post Office Ltd.'s consultation process, following the news that six local post offices in Bath are to close.

"It is a huge, huge disappointment," said Don.

"The news that, despite all our excellent campaigning, these closures are going to go ahead will be bitterly received by Bath's local communities.

"As we've witnessed in the past, the post office's so-called consultation is a sham, and their blinkered pre-occupation with the "one mile rule" will be little comfort to many people who have "

"What I want to do is provide an opportunity for people in the affected communities to provide evidence of how they will be affected.

"Then we will sit down with councillors and discuss whether it is possible we could persuade the Post Office to minimise some of the effects.

"Something which is not ideal but may be the next best thing is for mobile post office facilities. That is something we could look at."

If you are a resident of the Bath constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
