Bath's MP, Don Foster, has today led a delegation of Liberal Democrat Councillors, pensioners, students and children to deliver a massive petition from Bath residents against the proposals to close 6 local Post Offices, directly to the Prime Minister.

The petition contained over 5000 signatures, with more flooding into the Lib Dem office in Bath all the time (which will be sent on).

Commenting, Don said,

"This petition is a testament to the strength of feeling against the Post Office closures and a tribute to the communities in Bath.

"If these proposals go ahead the consequences will be enormous, and it's so important that this is seen by those at the very top.

"I thank everyone who has signed and collected this petition."

Local Councillor, Dine Romero (LD, Southdown) whose ward covers the affected Whiteway Branch on Mount Road, said,

"While Ministers were inside No. 10, discussing Iraq, I'm pleased we were on the outside reminding them of their own 'policy of mass destruction' - to our local communities and the lives of so many people.

"If the post office is forced to close, the neighbourhood will never be the same again."

Jack Sparrow, a pensioner who will be seriously affected by the closure of Bathwick Road Post Office and collected 600 names on his petition alone, said

"Its those who are already vulnerable, like pensioners, that will be the most affected by this closure, and I want to do all I can to fight this decision."

If you are a resident of the Bath constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
